Often being confused with its main island, Con Dao is actually the name of the archipelago of 16 mostly uninhabited islands and islets on the southern water of Vietnam, belonged to Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. The largest and only inhabited island is named Con Son which was once the place the French built a prison to lock up Vietnamese individuals captured during the independent movement.
Nowadays, Con Son and Con Dao are remembered for its paradise-like beauties, top resorts, and savory seafood. Not as crowded and exploited as Phu Quoc, Con Son still keeps the beaches unspoiled such as Nhat Beach, Bai Dai, Ong Dung Beach…. Con Son town is a great base to explore surrounding islands and islets like Bay Canh islet and Tre Lon islet. Shark Cape is also a famous spot on Con Son island.
