Phnom Penh or Nam Vang is the largest city and the capital of Cambodia Kingdom. Once known as 'Pearl of Asia', Phnom Penh shines with the lights of Khmer culture through the shimmering golden roofs of the age-old temples and pagodas, yet still bears the scars from the Khmer Rouge genocide on the somber killing fields.
Nurtured by three rivers – the Mekong, the Tonle Sap and Tonle Bassac, Phnom Penh is the crossroads of everything – a conjunction of different cultures, peoples, and memories. Among the collective lifestyle that is thriving in the future every minute, the heritage of old times stand – the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda and National Museum of Cambodia remind us. While a visit to Toul Svay Genocide Museum, one of the killing fields where more than 17,000 people were murdered is a depressing experience, the crimes of Khmer Rouge are still visible to these days. With all that, Phnom Penh is one of the worthiest destinations in Cambodia.
