War Remnants Museum

The War Remnants Museum has recognized as one of the most famous museums by Vietnamese people. This museum is a three-story holding with a ton of exhibits related to the horrifying tragedies of war in this war-torn country. Although most of the exhibits at the museum mostly focus on the Vietnam War, some exhibits relate to the first Indochina War with French colonialists.

To explore the War Remnants Museum you should start on the top floor and go down. Therefore, you will end your experience at the lighter exhibits on the ground floor.

Although many claims that the museum’s perspective is prejudiced. the Museum poignantly captures the devastation of war. The museum also shows remarkable exhibitions of the work of war photographers from both sides who perished in the battles.

The Reunification Palace

When visiting Ho Chi Minh, Reunification Palace is the sightseeing you shouldn’t miss. It is not only a place that pomp and grandeur but also about keeping the historic events. The building follows the 1960s style with its roomy, light-filled interiors and worn-out furnishings. It appears to have remained unchanged since the Vietnam War’s conclusion on April 30, 1975, when a North Vietnamese army tank plowed through the iron gates here. For the inhabitants, the palace stands for both this momentous occasion and the nation’s reunion.

The palace is situated on 44 acres of beautiful lawns and gardens. It also provides an intriguing look into the way of life of privileged heads of state in Saigon in the 1960s. It was erected where the Norodom Palace had stood, which fighter planes had destroyed in an abortive attempt to assassinate South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem in 1962.

The current building was the version that was completed in 1966 and used to house and house the next president when Vietnam was divided into the North and the South. The president’s residence, the war command room with its enormous maps and outdated communications technology, and the labyrinth of underground tunnels are notable features.

Outside of the Palace, there are military vehicles including the tank 843 and the fighter plane that crashed through the gate of the Norodom Palace on that tragic day in April more than forty years ago.

Cu Chi Tunnels

The Cu Chi Tunnels, which are around 60 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City, is a must-see half-day excursion and one of the most popular tours for tourists to the city. The Viet Cong’s military activities during the Vietnam War were based on this extensive tunnel system, which extends for more than 250 kilometers. The painfully small tunnels served as housing quarters for soldiers as well as hospitals, communication stations, hiding locations, and supply channels.

The Cu Chi Tunnel Tour includes the opportunity to crawl down a portion of the tunnel system. This experience heightens your understanding of the fortitude and adaption of the soldiers who lived here. The tunnels provide compelling insight into the challenges encountered by soldiers throughout the fight and the tactics that bolstered the VC’s struggle against American forces, even if you’re not a lover of recent military history.

After the tour, you’ll have lunch at a nearby restaurant before continuing on to the Mekong Delta. Then, you’ll travel to a farm to sample regional fares like honey tea and fruits cultivated there before boarding a small boat to paddle around the coconut-fringed canals.

Saigon Opera House

The elegant Saigon Opera House also known as The Municipal Theatre is located at the famous tree-lined Le Loi Avenue. French architect Eugene Ferret constructed it as Opera de Saigon in 1897 to amuse French colonists. Its eye-catching front is reminiscent of the Petit Palais, which was also constructed in Paris that same year.

Following 1956, the building served as the Lower House Assembly’s office before being transformed back into a theater in 1975, following the fall of Saigon. You must buy a ticket to a performance in order to see the theater’s interior.

Tickets are offered through the box office or regional travel agencies, and performances by the Ho Chi Minh City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera take place here. Some of the newer commercial centers and upscale hotels in the city are located close to the opera house. Also nearby are the Reunification Palace and Notre Dame Cathedral, which you may visit together.

Final Thoughts

Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam and its economic center, is a location where the ancient and the new stand in stark contrast to one another. Temples are scattered among the skyscrapers and fashionable stores, inhabitants fish in the lazy Saigon River with bamboo fishing rods, and in some areas of the city, the magnificent French colonial architecture and broad, tree-lined avenues give it an almost European atmosphere.

A number of remarkable tourist sites, like the somber War Remnants Museum, vibrant marketplaces, and the Reunification Palace’s time-warp, add to the stimulating cultural shock. We hope that 8 Top Sightseeing Ho Chi Minh City will help you help more ideas when visiting this city.
