Day 1: Arrival – Hanoi – Half-day tour

Meals provided: No meal

Welcome to Vietnam. Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, obtain your visa and clear Immigration and Customs. After collecting your baggage, exit the airport to meet outside our English-speaking tour guide and driver. He/she will hold a signboard with your name on it.

Transfer to your hotel in Hanoi for check-in. Then visit the Temple of Literature built in 1076 where Vietnam’s first university was established to educate Vietnam’s royalty, mandarins, and elite members – a fascinating glimpse into the country’s past. Afterward, enjoy a cyclo tour around Hanoi Old Quarter – 36 streets and guilds to discover the ancient feature of Hanoi and daily life. Continue to St Joseph’s Cathedral, a 19th-century neo-Gothic church built with the Notre Dame of Paris in mind. The church is a gathering place for Hanoi’s predominantly Roman Catholic community and is also popular with tourists. Constructed when the French first occupied the city, St. Joseph Cathedral is a striking example of colonial architecture in Hanoi. Return to your hotel.

Stay overnight in Hanoi.

Day 3: Sapa – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Fansipan Mount with cable car – Lao Cai – Hanoi by overnight train (B/L)

Meals provided: Breakfast, Lunch

After breakfast, travel on the road down the valley from Sapa about 07 kilometers to the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai. It is a nice ride with great views of the lush terraces. In this village, you will have welcome feeling at any house of the hospitable people there. You can interact with them, and learn about their culture and customs. From there, you will follow the valley for a few miles to the next town of Ta Van.

Along the way, you will walk through terraced rice fields and among some picturesque villages, and experience a bit of rural life. Ta Van is a village of Giay people, who look more like the traditional Viet living in the Red Delta. As you walk through different hill tribe villages (Hmong and Dao people), it’s helpful to have a guide to explain customs or practices to you and perhaps translate. You’re sure to see other tourists on the trail (which puts many people off), but this is an excellent example of the many great treks in the area.

Afternoon you will be transferred to the Sapa Cable Station for the very amazing trip to Indochina’s Rooftop – Mount Fansipan by cable car. This is particularly interesting in these northern mountains of the country, where travelers seek the rice terraces and traditional arts of minority peoples. Cultivating the land to an altitude of around 2,200 meters are the ethnic minorities the lowland Vietnamese generically call ‘Meo’ – savages – and above them looms the bulk of Hua Xi Pan: “giant protruding rock”. You can challenge yourself when hiking 600 stone stairs more to reach the rocky peak of The Roof of Indochina. Below you spread the foothills of the Himalayas, blanketed with rainforest and the first tendrils of fog. Then transfer to Lao Cai for checking in the overnight train back to Hanoi.

Stay overnight on an overnight train.
