In the afternoon, we continue exploring the mysterious Royal city Angkor Thom whose 54-tower temple is an awesome sight. At first glance, it seems a shapeless mass of stone, but further scrutiny reveals a face, and then another and another until suddenly you are engulfed by the silent, heavy, enigmatic silent gazes. Further on, we visit the surroundings of the complex including the Bayon, Elephant Terraces, Leper King Terrace and countless carved figures. The size and the foundations of the Khmer civilization are well-summarized in this extraordinary place.

This is a unique island temple in the middle of the Jayatataka or Northern Baray which is surrounded by four smaller square ponds.
In the afternoon, we will visit the enchanting Banteay Srei. It appears that the temple was designed to leave no space undecorated, and the fine carvings in pink sandstone are unique .Take a short stop at Pradak village to see the simple natural way of local people are producing palm sugar from palm juice (Toek Tnot in Khmer) .At the end of afternoon we enjoy sunset view at the small hill of Prae Rup Temple.

Visitors to Kampong Khleang during the dry season are universally awestruck by the forest of stilted houses rising up to 10 meters in the air. In wet season the waters rise up to one or two meters of the buildings. Like Kompong Pluk, Kompong Khleang is a permanent community within the flood plain of the Lake, with an economy based in fishing and surrounded by flooded forest. But Kompong Khleang is significantly larger with nearly 10 times the population of Kompong Pluk, making it the largest community on the Lake.

Day 6: Phnom Penh - City Tour

Meal Provided: Breakfast

A begin of the step to explore Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. Visit the private quarters of the Royal Palace built in 1866 by King Norodom and the Silver Pagoda the most sacred shrine in the country. We continue to the National Museum, dedicated exclusively to Khmer art and sculpture which houses the world's foremost collection of Khmer art. The majority of the exhibits are from the Angkor period (9th to 15th Century). You can then opt to visit Shops and Boutiques at Street 178 which are populated with souvenir shops and galleries, restaurants and cafes. Street 178 is known as ‘Art Street’ for the local art galleries.

Discover the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum. In 1975, Tuol Svay Prey High School was taken over by Pol Pot’s security forces and turned into a prison known as Security Prison 21 (S-21); it soon became the largest centre of detention and torture in the country. S-21 has been turned into the Tuol Sleng Museum, which serves as a testament to the crimes of the Khmer Rouge. After that, visit Choeung Ek. Between 1975 and 1978 about 17,000 men, women, children and infants who had been detained and tortured at S-21 were transported to the extermination camp of Choeung Ek. A visit to these sights provides us a deep insight into the painful bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge.
