Banteay Srei, or more commonly known with the name ‘citadel of women’ or the ‘pink temple’, lies about 35km away from Siem Reap is one of the must-see destinations besides Angkor Wat.
The temple was built mostly by small red sandstones with an stunning Hindu architecture. Banteay Srei has three parts – northern one is the worshiping place of Vishnu, the central and the southern parts are both dedicated to Shiva.
The softness of sandstones resulted in such lavish ornamental carving decorations all over the buildings which is such feast for the eyes of those who can appreciate art and architecture. Every detail comes alive through the hands of the sculptors, telling such appealing stories.
